Peacock Mitigation Program Update
Published on March 23, 2026
Pinecrest is continuing its long-term, humane effort to reduce the peacock population and address the challenges many residents have experienced.
We know peafowl can create real concerns, from noise and property impacts to safety. This program is designed to manage the population responsibly while preventing future growth.
As of March 2026, the Village has made meaningful progress. A total of 304 males have been humanely retrieved, sterilized, and safely returned to their original location. In addition, 289 females have been humanely retrieved, with 59 peahens having completed the full spaying procedure. Treating both males and females is an important step toward slowing population growth.
Because this is a humane, long-term solution, results will happen gradually. As more birds are treated, residents can expect to see a reduction in population growth and related impacts across the community.
You may notice some peacocks wearing blue or red ankle bracelets. These indicate the bird has been treated and can no longer contribute to reproduction.
If you have peafowl on your property and would like assistance, please submit a request form online or email peacock@pinecrest-fl.gov. A Right of Entry form is required for the Village’s humane trappers to access the area and will be provided upon request.
