Our area, as well as the rest of South Florida, is experiencing dangerous heat conditions throughout the weekend and into next week. While air temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid-90s, high humidity levels could push heat index values—or "feels-like" temperatures—to between 105°F and 110°F.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, especially older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to adequate cooling.
Heat Safety Tips
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Keep physical and other activities indoors and do not do them outdoors during the hottest hours, which are usually 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.
Never leave children, older adults, or pets unattended in vehicles.
Check on neighbors, family members, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
Know the signs of heat exhaustion, including dizziness, headache, nausea, and excessive sweating. If symptoms worsen or heat stroke is suspected, call 911 immediately.
The Village/City will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed.
