Know your flood zone

You have two zones, and they answer different questions. Your flood zone tells you your property's flood risk and whether flood insurance is required. Your evacuation zone (Storm Surge Planning Zone) tells you whether you must leave when an order is issued.

Flood insurance

  • Standard homeowners policies do not cover flood damage.

  • Flood insurance is required for any federally backed mortgage in a special flood hazard area, but anyone can buy it.

  • New National Flood Insurance Program policies usually take 30 days to take effect, so buy before a storm forms.

  • Pinecrest takes part in FEMA's Community Rating System, which lowers flood insurance premiums for residents.
