Getting back in

Before you reopen
Photograph damage and contact your insurer before cleanup.
Get permits for any structural, roof, electrical, plumbing or mechanical repairs. See the commercial section of the Recovery permits guide (/hurricane/permits).
Have a licensed electrician check equipment that was flooded before turning power back on.
Food businesses: discard food that lost refrigeration and follow state inspection rules before reopening.
Debris from businesses
Storm debris collection is for residential properties. Businesses must arrange private removal. Where homes and businesses share a site, keep residential and commercial debris in separate piles.
