Equipping Young Leaders to Address Vaping in Pinecrest Schools

Youth Advisory Council members met with Miami-Dade Health Department officials to learn how companies hook young users with fruit flavors and sleek devices. Member Tegan captured the problem: "So many teenagers think it's a way to ease their stress and don't understand you're putting synthetic toxins in your body." Juliana highlighted the danger of how common these habits have become, noting that "there's really been an increase in the use of vaping, and especially smoking" and that it has "become really normalized in a way where people forget that there are repercussions to it."

Following the presentation, YAC students toured the Pinecrest Police Department to learn about community policing and public safety. This experience showed how Village departments work together to keep Pinecrest a safe and well-prepared community.
