A coyote has been sighted in the Pinecrest neighborhoods listed below. Coyotes live throughout South Florida and typically avoid people, but residents in these areas should stay alert, especially at dawn, dusk, and overnight.
Sighting locations:
Coyote sighted: near S.W. 112 St. and S.W. 61 Ct.; S.W. 108 St. and S.W. 60 Ave.
Safety tips
Keep pets safe. Walk dogs on a short leash, and don't leave small pets outside unattended.
Don't feed wildlife. Feeding coyotes makes them lose their natural fear of people.
Secure food sources. Keep garbage in closed containers, bring pet food inside, and pick up fallen fruit.
Don't run. If you see a coyote, stay calm, make yourself look big, make loud noises, and back away slowly.
Keep your distance. Never approach or try to touch a coyote.
