KSUP Construction | Expanding our tree canopy, not reducing it
Published on August 15, 2025
Construction is underway on the Kendall Drive Shared Use Path (SUP) — a major project from the Village’s Transportation Master Plan (approved in 2018) that will enhance safety, mobility, and long-term community aesthetics along Kendall Drive.
Important Note:
As part of the construction process, some trees are being removed to accommodate the wider path and ensure clear visibility at driveways. We are deeply committed to expanding our tree canopy, not reducing it. The Village is planting mature trees on the north side of Kendall Drive to offset the immediate impact of removing trees along the shared-use path.
When construction is complete, the Village will plant mature trees to replace the lost canopy along the new shared-use path. The goal is to leave the area more verdant than it was before and beautify the area so that it resembles a tree-lined park more than an arterial road. This will enhance the corridor’s appearance and preserve the character of our community.
The project covers the south side of Kendall Drive, from Ludlam Road (SW 67th Ave) to Red Road (SW 57th Ave). It involves removing the existing 5-foot sidewalk and constructing a new 8-foot-wide asphalt path designed for two-way pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Initial work is taking place in front of Temple Beth Am and Gulliver Prep schools, progressing west to east. These school-impacted sections will be finished first, followed by the remainder of the path over the next three months.
What’s Changing:
- A safer, wider route for walking, jogging, and biking
- Graded and sodded swales to improve drainage and green space
- Additional street trees and landscaping to beautify the corridor
- Stronger connections to parks, neighborhoods, and shared-use paths
This is a multi-month project that will take time to complete. Residents can expect some disruption along Kendall Drive, including temporary fencing, construction activity, and partial sidewalk closures. We ask for your patience and understanding as this important investment moves forward.
In the long run, the Kendall Drive Shared Use Path will not only provide a safer and more accessible travel option — it will also make Kendall Drive greener, more beautiful, and more connected than ever before.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make Pinecrest an even better place to walk, bike, and live.
